Adoption of IoT by Farmers in the Agriculture Sector
摘要
With the evolution of technology, advanced solutions have been introduced to enhance efficiency and productivity in various industries. As the agriculture sector is the major contributing sector to the Indian economy, it is then not a surprise that technology has had an immense effect on this sector too. One of these technologies is the Internet of Things (IoT), which has emerged as a transformative technology to revolutionize farming practices. This research paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the adoption of IoT by farmers in the agriculture sector, thereby focusing on its benefits, challenges, and implications in this sector. Various benefits like improved resource management, precision farming, real-time monitoring of crops and livestock, and enhanced automation of tasks which were the result of IoT adoption in agriculture, were thoroughly examined and analysed. These advantages contribute to increased yield, reduced costs, and sustainable agricultural practices. As implementation of technologies is not always easy there are various challenges associated with the adoption of IoT in agriculture. Moreover, agriculture is primarily in rural areas where lack of finance, technical know-how, and poor infrastructural network are major hindrances. The paper explores various factors such as high initial investment costs, lack of technical skills among farmers, concerns about data security and privacy, and the need for reliable network infrastructure in rural areas that affect the adoption of IoT in agriculture by farmers.
