Our research journey revealed that remine is a highly specific case within the spectrum of resource retention strategies, often overlooked yet critically important due to the increasing scarcity of resources. Despite an extensive search, we were unable to partner with a case company for in-depth research on this topic. Consequently, our analysis in this chapter adopts a more generic viewpoint. We will draw insights from publicly accessible contributions, rather than focusing on a singular, in-depth case study. The implementation and execution of remine are complex processes that often span several years to decades, are influenced by a range of drivers, and often include significant government involvement. This extended time frame and the intricate nature of remine processes are explored through two examples to clarify the concept and distinguish it from Recycling. The first example delves into the extraction of metals, illustrating how remine operates in this context. The second case study examines land as a resource and its relationship with remine. Various drivers and enablers associated with these scenarios are highlighted. Ultimately, the chapter aims to shed light on the significant impact remine has on global resource management and sustainability.
