The Long Fraction Line: Mathematical Concepts Rhymers
摘要
These “teaching rhymers” (mostly limericks) were written for and about a course, Mathematical Concepts, for nonmajors, which I taught a few times at Drexel U. As our text, we used the first half of “The Heart of Mathematics,” by Berger and Starbird. When I teach any math course, I usually write limericks to go with it, but I don’t sic those limericks on the students, I simply make up copies and hand them out (or send them virtually) to the students, for them to do with them as they wish. I don’t really know to what extent the students read them; I do know that those who do enjoy them, and I feel that they learn from them too. I also learn from them.
