Contextualizing Global Social Work Education in Pakistan: Bridging the Gap Between Indigenous Practices and Social Work Curriculum

The chapter discusses the state of social work in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for indigenization. Few universities offer social work programs, which are essential for various public and private welfare services. Concerns arise regarding whether these programs adequately prepare professionals. Additionally, there is a lack of studies on establishing quality standards for indigenous social work. Drawing from Akimoto’s model, the chapter develops a conceptual framework and includes insights from practitioners on bridging theory with practice. It concludes by advocating for aligning academic courses with localized social work practices, aiming to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application.
