Social Work Education in Zambia: Challenges and Opportunities for Indigenisation

  • Fred Moonga

摘要

Social work education in Zambia is influenced by Western values and global trends. As such, there have been attempts to indigenise it. However, these attempts coincided with the rise of globalisation which requires interdependence. Issues of migration, drug and human trafficking, and child abuse, among others, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrated shared global challenges justifying the globalisation discourse. This chapter discusses the challenges and opportunities of indigenising social work education in Zambia. It argues that social problems and needs vary across countries and influence social work education and practice. Therefore, social work education and training should have an emphasis on the local context.
