摘要

This chapter explores the crucial role of note-taking in Chinese interpreting. Note-taking is a fundamental skill utilized in all CI interpreting tasks, facilitating the accurate transfer of information from one language to another. However, the different syntactic complexities inherent in Chinese and Indo-European languages necessitate the development of a specialized note-taking system specifically tailored to Chinese interpreting. This chapter delves into the reasons why note-taking is particularly crucial in the context of Chinese interpreting, emphasizing the need for interpreters to effectively capture and retain essential information during the interpreting process. It highlights the challenges posed by the syntactic differences and provides practical guidance on developing an ad hoc note-taking system to enhance accuracy and efficiency. By examining the significance of note-taking and offering specific strategies for Chinese interpreting, this chapter equips interpreters with the necessary tools to excel in their professional practice.
