Interpreting in Trade Fairs: Linguistic and Cultural Aspects

  • Elena Morandi

摘要

Interpreting within the context of trade fairs, commonly referred to as “commercial interpretation” plays a pivotal role in facilitating international business interactions. This specialized field differs significantly from conventional negotiation settings and other forms of interpretation. Trade fairs serve as initial platforms for presenting products and services, and interpreters operating in this context engage in commercial discussions without assuming the full responsibilities associated with contract negotiations. To adequately prepare students for successful careers in interpretation, it is imperative to familiarize them with trade-fair events, participants, objectives, and the multifaceted nature of their roles. Successful interpretation necessitates linguistic proficiency, cognitive capabilities for discourse analysis, and interpersonal and professional skills to navigate diverse scenarios.
