Microbes and Ecosystem Cybernetics

The field of “ecosystem cybernetics” emerged as a scientific discipline with Norbert Wiener’s articulation in 1948, further developed by influential figures such as Margalef (1968) and Odum (1971). Margalef conceptualized ecosystems as complex systems governed by feedback loops and species interactions, emphasizing their interconnectedness and emergent properties. Odum expanded upon these ideas, illustrating how feedback and control mechanisms regulate ecosystem stability. In this, it is detailed, how soil organisms play vital roles in ecosystem cybernetics, contributing to nutrient cycling, energy flow, and feedback mechanisms within terrestrial ecosystems. Besides, the challenges and future directions are also discussed.
