Peter Tosh
摘要
This chapter looks at Peter Tosh’s articulation of Africa and Africans through this music and the strength and confidence he portrayed off the stage to inspire Jamaicans and other nationals in the African Diaspora to see greatness in their blackness and how such acceptance could help to overcome the hypocritical and oppressive system in which Blacks found themselves. Tosh’s conceptualization of Africanness for the Diaspora has had resonance in Africa and it is in that light that it could contribute in an endeavor to build a new Africa. This chapter utilizes the qualitative case study content analysis method to analyze Tosh’s lyrics, interviews, and documentaries to tease out valuable lessons. It also examines available public records on the reception by Africans on the content of Peter Tosh and his message. The findings from these analyses lead to feasible suggestions for building a new Africa.
