Air Traffic Flow Analysis of Sarajevo Flight Information Region

The purpose of this research is to calculate the capacity of airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina is described in this study; and flight data, taken from EUROCONTROL for 2013 are analyzed. This study shows results of analysis of flights according to airline company, aircraft categories and entry and exit points and times of Sarajevo FIR, entry and exit routes of Sarajevo FIR and speed of aircrafts. Distribution of air traffic according to months, days and hours, is given in the study and also, peak day and peak hour of air traffic in Sarajevo FIR for 2013 year has been found. In SIMMOD software tool model of Sarajevo FIR has been constructed. Simulations in tool have been made with four different scenarios. For every scenario numbers of simulated flights have been changed. Four different scenarios included 26, 60, 80 and 100 flights per hour for structure of Sarajevo FIR what was in 2013. With these simulations delay time has been calculated and the busiest air point and airrute have been found. Finally, capacity of Sarajevo FIR has calculated as 71 flights per hour. This finding can be helpful for planning of air traffic in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as re-designing structure of airspace of B&H.
