Experimental Techniques for Evaluating Photocatalytic Activity of Graphene

Photocatalysis is a versatile and attractive technology with a wide range of applications, including water treatment, air purification, and energy conversion. The performance of these processes is highly dependent on photocatalytic activity. The purpose of this chapter is an overview of approaches available for assessing and improving the photocatalytic activity of graphene-based photocatalysts (GBPs), and of the various factors that influence their performance. It also covers the fundamentals of the photocatalytic process and the variables that influence photocatalytic efficiency. Furthermore, various strategies and experimental approaches for evaluating and strengthening photocatalytic activity, such as catalyst design, surface modification, co-catalysts, and band gap engineering, are explored. Experimental techniques for evaluating photocatalytic activity and the factors that influence it are also discussed. Some examples highlighting the enhanced photocatalytic activity in different applications are presented. The chapter concludes with a look to the future, and the importance of continuing research and deployment in photocatalytic processes to unlock their full potential in meeting environmental and energy challenges.
