Graphene-Based Materials for Degradation of Organic Pollutants in Wastewater

One of the most difficult environmental issues of the twenty-first century is water contamination. Water is necessary for home, industrial, and agricultural processes as well as for human development, but these activities also discharge a range of contaminants into the environment that harm both the ecological system and human health. Water quality declines as a result of several factors, including leftover antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, and dyes. Researchers have been driven to create wastewater treatment materials that remove harmful contaminants because of the growing need for clean water. Graphene-based metal or metal oxide nanocomposites are one of the most promising solutions for this issue. Graphene, owing to its exceptional properties, has garnered significant attention from the scientific community, stoking high expectations for its broad-ranging applications in diverse fields. This book chapter discusses the potential of graphene-based metal or metal oxide nanocomposites in wastewater treatment, their surprising properties, and some relevant investigations.
