Different Types of Separators for Lithium Sulfur Battery

Lithium sulfur battery is one of the high performance batteries mainly due to its high energy density, low cost and environmental protection. These properties make them a good candidate in electric vehicles and portable devices. However, the practical application of these batteries are limited due to the low ionic conductivity of sulfur and the shuttle effect. Recent researches are concentrating on the development of novel separators for lithium sulfur batteries. Separators are an essential part of the battery which separates two electrodes which avoids short-circuit, replaces electrolytes and maintains electrochemical inertness. This review deals with the different types of separators used in the lithium sulfur batteries and their effect on the performance of lithium sulfur batteries.
