摘要

This paper investigates the use of wearables and their impact on athletic performance. The investigation commences by introducing wearable technology, defining the concept, and providing a concise overview of the physiological and biomedical factors monitored by these devices. The literature review delves into the two primary categories of wearables, fitness trackers and smartwatches, followed by an exploration of their key components: sensors and accelerometers. The discussion continues to address the role of wearables in preventing injuries and their real-time feedback based on performance while analyzing how individuals can gain a competitive advantage using wearable technology. Given the real-time feedback capabilities, users have the opportunity to share data with trainers and coaches to address and strengthen their athletic weaknesses. Finally, these concepts will be demonstrated in relation to ethical and legal considerations when using wearables. The study then presents the research methodology outlining the quantitative approach adopted by employing a questionnaire with a sample size of 126 responses. Correlation analysis is undertaken to analyze the data based on the research objectives. The research concludes that wearable technology enhances athletic performance and increases users’ motivation. However, companies that create and sell the technology need to set clear guidelines and information on how they handle the data collected. Lastly, users of wearables see room for the technology to improve, which is elaborated in the paper’s conclusion.
