Details of Daily Life
摘要
This chapter explores topics linked with man’s relationship with animals in daily life. As we shall see, the material from the letters reveals incidents from the interaction of the correspondents with various animals. Through their texts, they share the pleasures of the hunt, request equines for transportation, etc., subjects that will be discussed in the respective following case studies. These texts also preserve valuable scenes of the intimate contact with favoured animals or with those that are intrusive and repulsive by certain criteria, which too are derived from the realities of eveyday life and occasionally presented by using rhetoric. In this chapter, we shall not discuss farm animals. Several sections of this book, particularly “Animal products” and “Animal herding”, deal with various methods of economic exploitation of work animals, as well as the multiple ways in which such information is presented in epistolary texts, and the reader can find the information there.
