Mindfulness in Medicine: Transforming Healthcare from Within
摘要
This chapter examines a pivotal moment in modern medicine, highlighting the contrast between significant advancements and systemic shortcomings in the U.S. healthcare system. Despite technological progress, issues of access, affordability, and quality persist, contributing to healthcare disparities influenced by socioeconomic, racial, and geographical factors. The profit-driven nature of the industry exacerbates these issues, leading to healthcare provider burnout and patient dissatisfaction. The chapter advocates for a shift toward a patient-centered, value-based healthcare model, emphasizing mindfulness as a solution to the reductionist approach prevalent in medicine. By fostering a more compassionate healthcare environment, mindfulness can improve outcomes, reduce burnout, and bridge the gap between technological advances and the human aspects of care. A collaborative effort among stakeholders is called for, to reimagine a healthcare system that prioritizes well-being, equity, and empathy.
