Examples of the Creative Use of the Homospatial and Janusian Process in Visual Art and Sculpture

The homospatial process is a key factor in the development of visual metaphor and therefore is a major element in the creative process of the various kinds of visual art, painting, sculpture and architecture. The term, visual metaphor, was initially defined by the aesthetician, Virgil Aldrich. In the landscape painting ‘Courmayeur et les dents des geants’ by Kokoschka, there is a fusion of house and mountain natures. Thus is a part of the mountain domesticated and the house takes on a mountainous character. Examples of the artistic use of the homospatial process and visual metaphor are described: Henry Moore “Helmut Head No.5”; Edgar Rubin “Double Profiles;” Leonardo da Vinci “St, Ann with Virgin;” “Illustrations of the Proportion of the Human Figure;” and “Mona Lisa” (a janusian process example); Claes Oldenburg “Typewriter Pie;” and “Material and Scissors.”
