Vascular Tumors and Malignant Mesenchymal Tumors

Cutaneous vascular lesions include a heterogeneous group of tumors and malformations originating from blood or lymphatic vessels. Vascular tumors can be broadly classified into three categories: benign, locally aggressive or borderline, and malignant tumors. Infantile hemangioma, cherry angioma, pyogenic granuloma, and angiokeratoma are the most common forms of benign vascular tumors. The most important tumor in the category of locally aggressive tumors is Kaposi’s sarcoma. Malignant vascular tumors are sporadic and include angiosarcomas and epithelioid hemangioendotheliomas. Malignant mesenchymal tumors are considered low-grade sarcomas with intermediate malignant potential. The most common subtypes are dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma.
