Cellulose

In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the study of cellulose (Fig. 2.1) as a source of clean, sustainable, environmentally friendly, and biodegradable chemicals. Because of its properties, cellulose can be used in industrial operations to replace mineral oil and petroleum-based chemicals. The principal structural component of plant and some seaweed cell walls is cellulose. The cellulose molecule is an insoluble polymer made up of amorphous and mostly crystalline domains of parallel-oriented molecules.
