Leadership

In Chap. 8 , we discuss leadership in academic medicine. We note that leadership extends beyond formal titles and instead, is a set of behaviors. Leadership begins with self-awareness and includes being very clear about one’s values, strengths, and areas for growth. However, leadership extends beyond self and requires facility in groups and interpersonal relationships. We talk about how leadership can be learned, various leadership competencies, and where you can find formal and informal leadership programs. The chapter also discusses how you can communicate your leadership vision and your interest in leadership positions. Finally, we discuss how all good leaders are also good followers and why followership matters.
