Promotion
摘要
In Chap. 7 , we discuss promotion and tenure. Every institution has their own promotion pathways and tracks and their own qualification criteria. We note that you must be very clear about your ‘designated’ promotion track before you sign your contract; that is, your clinical, education, research, and administrative effort must align to make your ultimate promotion possible. Faculty members should know their institution’s explicit and implicit (hidden) promotion criteria. For example, what are the objective indicators of ‘excellence’ and/or ‘reputation’? How does my department and institution define scholarship (i.e. what qualifies as scholarship)? To get promoted, we all need letters of recommendation from faculty members at other institutions; how do you identify those letter-writers? How and where do you build your network? The chapter concludes with a recommendation to use your annual review meeting to gauge your progress toward promotion.
