Getting the Right Position in Academic Medicine

In Chap. 4 , we describe how to find your ‘best-fit’ job in academic medicine. We start by describing how to research your opportunities, including popular job sites, and we pose a series of exploratory questions you should consider as you narrow-down your search. The chapter also details how you should explore an institution, department, and the faculty to test for alignment with their (and your) values. We describe how to apply for a job, understand the faculty rank nomenclature, and how to prepare for an on-campus visit (including key questions to ask and consider). We conclude with suggestions about negotiating your job offer.
