Preparing for an Academic Medicine Career
摘要
In Chap. 2 , we review the essentials of preparing for a career in academic medicine. We start by describing Boyer’s classification of the four dimensions of scholarship and how academic freedom comes with academic responsibility. We describe different types of research conducted by the various types of faculty members (e.g., clinician-scientists, basic scientists, medical educators, and healthcare policy researchers). This chapter emphasizes the importance of teaching and mentoring in academic medicine and describes how faculty rank and promotion works.
