Interpolation

Similarly to the least squares approximations, we look for a simply computable function which fits the values \(f_i = f (x_i )\) given at specified points \(x_i\) . However, now we assume that the values \(f (x_i )\) are available error-free; therefore, we wish the function to fit the data exactly.
