Optimization

Optimization is very important in everyday life: whether you want to minimize pollution or losses, maximize profits or votes, or find optimal traffic routes or industrial technologies. We assume here that you can use the MATLAB program package and have Nocedal and Wright (2000) or a similar book (see, e.g., Stoyan and Takó 2010 for optimization without constraints) at your disposal, and that you can consult Geiger and Kanzow (2002) on the topic of how to take into account constraints, also called restrictions or side conditions.
