Beyond Virtual Scenography: Double Scenography as a Dramaturgical Strategy for Immersion in Virtual Reality Theatre
摘要
In this critical analysis, Rebekka Sofie Bohse Meyer utilises the notion of ‘expanded scenography’ to prioritise the sensorial experiences of the participant. Using this theoretical framework, she scrutinises the presence of real and virtual spaces in the performance Anthropia, created by the Danish company Makropol. She describes the various scenes of the performance and details the user’s journey from on-boarding. The author concludes her paper by stating that the creators used the dramaturgical strategies of double scenography by focusing simultaneously on body awareness and virtual immersion. She also demonstrated that this immersive performance was not relying on the narcissistic participative attitude of the audience, but they did not really become co-creators due to the limitations of VR technology.
