Decentralized Finance and Decentralized Digital Identities: Opportunities and Challenges of Identity Solutions

Decentralized finance (DeFi) presents individuals with financial autonomy and opens numerous avenues within the financial services sector. However, there are obstacles that impede its broader adoption. Many of these hurdles cannot be exclusively addressed through technical means and stem from issues related to the absence of a consistent, enduring identity framework. This chapter delves into these issues faced by DeFi, examines possible identity solutions, discusses their potentials and challenges, and ultimately outlines pathways for progression.
