Decentralized Finance and Blockchain in Traditional Finance: Economic Opportunities and Adoption Challenges

This chapter positions the increasingly mature space of decentralized finance (DeFi) in terms of its technological foundations and economic opportunities in the context of adoption by the “traditional” financial sector. It presents applications of DeFi and cooperative ventures initiated by well-known financial institutions. At last, we introduce and contextualize socioeconomic and regulatory challenges in terms of market dynamics and news.
