Presuppositions—Barring Error—of Roberto Schwarz, Antonio Candido, and Georg Lukács

This chapter argues, among other things, that Roberto Schwarz’s understanding of form as an active principle in literary construction, developed on the basis of Antonio Candido’s reading of the “dialectic of roguery”, presupposes the findings of Georg Lukács’s 1936 essay “Narrate or Describe?”.
