摘要

As the utilization of free flaps and microvascular free tissue transfer began taking the forefront of reconstructive surgery, it was realized that varying flap types may be more suitable for differences in resurfacing dimensions. The radial forearm was identified as an anatomically thin and pliable area capable of harvest for reconstruction of a variety of bodily locations without the need for bulk. This was found to be particularly useful in head and neck reconstruction, as a large amount of soft-tissue and bony defects can necessitate free tissue transfer in this area. Harvested from the radial artery, this chapter examines the history, indications, usages, technical considerations, and postoperative care for the harvest and utilization of the radial forearm free flap in head and neck reconstruction.
