Facial Regional Flaps

Facial regional flaps are axial flaps based off the terminal branches of the internal and external carotid artery branches. The paramedian forehead flap is a pedicled flap based off the supratrochlear artery and is the workhorse in nasal reconstruction. The melolabial flap is a versatile flap that can be utilized as an advancement, rotation, transposition, and interpolated flap. When the melolabial flap is utilized as an interpolated flap, it is most commonly used in alar reconstruction, while when utilized as an advancement or transposition flap, it can be applied to a variety of cheek and lip defects. The temporalis and temporoparietal fascia flaps are commonly applied to lateral skull base, auricular, and orbital reconstruction. Regional facial flaps offer the reconstructive surgeon many tools to address a variety of cutaneous defects.
