How to Semantically Identify Water-Stressed Date Palms?

This paper presents the semantic definitions of new classes of traits and phenotypes that best capture the effects of water stress on date palms. The construction of these new observable properties is based on plant-related ontologies that are widely used today in agriculture and, more generally, in environmental sciences. Furthermore, we show how we are using the OBO Foundry ontologies to describe date palm-specific traits and phenotypes that may prove to be markers of date palms under stress. These new classes are currently being used to build a knowledge graph containing data collected over the last two years from a palm grove located 20 km from Djibouti.
