This chapter discusses socially responsible marketing (SRM). The focus is on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social & governance (ESG). Both CSR and ESG are closely linked to other terms such as corporate citizenship (CC), corporate philanthropy, and creating shared value (CSV), which are also examined. We discuss how socially responsible marketing (SRM) is executed and how this concept is closely associated with what can be described as social-, societal-, cause-, ethical-, green-, and sustainability- marketing. The CSR pyramid model—the four levels—of CSR as well as the benefits of CSR and ESG are discussed. The focus is on CSR in the tourism and hospitability industry, with particular emphasis on small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMTEs) and to observe some examples of CSR/ESG practices implemented by multinational companies (MNCs). Also discusses are some CSR and ESG initiatives. Next, the issue of greenwashing used in tourism and hospitality marketing and communications is explained. More will be learnt about the triple bottom line of sustainable tourism development. Finally, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be discussed so as to establish why it is important for tourism and hospitality businesses to attempt to integrate the relevant SDGs into their CSR/ESG programmes. The chapter’s case study looks at Topas Travel in Vietnam and its social responsibility initiatives.
