Investigation of the Effect of Initial Parameters on the Performance of Metaheuristic Algorithms on a Structural Engineering Problem

Metaheuristic algorithms are the algorithm that formulizes a happening and this formulation depends on an updated solution. To apply these algorithms, an initial solution is needed and it is randomly chosen. This random value has different objective functions that may be close or far from the optimum. In this study, the effect of randomly generated initial values is examined by using several runs. For this investigation, a structural engineering problem that is the cost optimization of reinforced concrete column was investigated by using an adaptive harmony search algorithm.
