摘要

Climate change has become one of the most threatening challenges to our planet. There is clear evidence about the global temperature increase accompanied by changes in weather and climate. Climate variability and its associated extremes have become more frequent and vigorous in many places of the world. The rapid changes have been observed in floods, droughts, torrential rain, cyclone, tornadoes, heat, cold waves, etc. Temperature is one of the main triggering factors that directly affect the climate of our globe. A small temperature change may impact large and dangerous potential shifts in weather and climate. The oceans are becoming more acidic as a result of global warming, glacier and polar ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising. These changes have become prominent and will likely impact our ecosystem and society in the coming decades. Agriculture activity particularly in rainfed areas (Potohar plateau) has always been a big challenge and it may become more severe under climate change scenarios in the coming future. To address the future challenges of this threat, new advancement in technology particularly Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) is the key to make the crops sustainable in the region. The CSA technique could benefit climate change mitigation, reduced soil erosion, drought buffering, stable yields, and reduced field preparation costs.
