Climate change is one of the most crucial threats affecting ecosystems and water resources. Islands are more vulnerable to such threats as they have limited territories, resources, and restrictive conditions. Management of water resources in island ecosystems is critical for the sustainability of these ecosystems. As surface water resources on islands are typically minimal; groundwater resources are more vital to meet the water needs. Thus, the demand for water from different sectors and the effects of climate change put immense stress on groundwater resources in these ecosystems, which leads to the need for more sustainable strategies in water resource management. Among these strategies, natural and/or artificial groundwater recharge is one of the most important methods to sustain island’s water resources. Based on this premise, this study aims to provide essential perspectives on using innovative nature-based solutions to sustainably manage islands' existing water resources under the influence of climate change. Understanding the unique status of the islands and the complex relationship between water resources and climate change is of great importance for the creation and development of sustainable policies in these areas. With innovative techniques such as rainwater harvesting, water scarcity on the islands can be reduced and set a good example for all the islands and then the whole world for a sustainable future.
