IoT Ecosystems—the Challenge for the Smart City
摘要
Despite the fact of continuous economic development and increasing the number of people living in cities, they are a source of environmental threats, with particular emphasis on water, air and waste. It is estimated that cities account for 60% of the world's energy consumption. In this context, the issue of intelligent solutions that will reduce the occurrence of threats while maintaining the lowest possible operating costs seems to be extremely important. Increasing people's access to the Internet and the possibility of using various applications made it possible to constantly monitor selected environmental parameters, and thus control environmental pollution. The aim of the paper is to present the possibilities of the development and functioning of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems in terms of the most important solutions for the natural environment, together with a discussion of example implementations in the field of IoT in Poland carried out by T-Mobile. The number of implemented solutions indicates that the Narrowband IoT technology operating within the Low Power Wide Area network can be used to reduce the negative impact of urbanization on the environment.
