Towards a Responsive Science Education for Sustainable Development

  • Ian Phil Canlas

摘要

Quality Education is one of the seventeen goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is recognized as a key driver of the rest of the sustainable development goals. Without question, science education is an essential driver of sustainable development. Although the debate continues, there is some understanding that scientific literacy, including other literacies, is considered an essential measure of quality education. Therefore, the author hypothesizes that most, if not all, concepts and underlying principles of sustainable development and scientific literacy are complementary. This chapter presents the current landscape of science education in the context of sustainable development drawn from document analyses of 183 papers extracted from the Scopus database following a document selection criteria. By examining titles, abstracts, and objectives, key themes were identified and presented in this chapter, including a reflection on gaps and opportunities in the nexus of science education and education for sustainable development research.
