Circular Economy Adoption in Construction: A Pathway to Sustainable Development and UN SDG 11 Achievement

This article explores how the adoption of circular economy principles in the construction industry can contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, which aims to make cities and communities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Adopting a circular economy approach to construction can reduce waste, reuse materials and promote healthier and more sustainable built environments. The article highlights key factors driving the adoption of the circular economy in the construction industry, including environmental concerns, resource scarcity, cost savings and regulatory pressure. However, there are several barriers that can impede the adoption and implementation of circular economy in construction, such as lack of awareness and understanding of circular economy principles and difficulty in tracking materials and products throughout their lifecycle. Overcoming these challenges requires greater awareness, investment in new technologies and favorable regulatory frameworks. It is concluded that the adoption of circular economy principles can significantly contribute to building a more sustainable and equitable future.
