A Network Theory of Culture

摘要

This chapter outlines the macro level of the 3-level framework of learning processes and discusses its interpenetration with the meso and micro levels via a network theory of culture. Cultural historical activity theory is proposed as the network representation of the macro level, which encompasses the HPL theory of community (Chaps. 8 , 9 , and 10 ), and in turn the HPL model encompasses the PKK theory of learning (Chaps. 4 , 5 , and 7 ). Units of analysis can be selected within and across the levels, with remaining nodes and relationships of the network viewed as context for the analysis. Both linear and nonlinear functions co-exist at the macro level and require multiple AI methods to construct models of events and processes.
