Radiology in Pediatric Cancer

The selection of appropriate imaging techniques in pediatric oncological radiology is very important. Initially, simpler and cost-effective methods such as X-rays or ultrasound are considered for their efficiency in localizing and characterizing masses, as well as detecting latent metastatic disease. Subsequently, cross-sectional imaging provides detailed morphological insights and relational data through radiomics analysis. A comprehensive evaluation of potential metastatic sites necessitates whole-body imaging modalities like whole-body MRI (WB-MRI), positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT-CT). Real-time imaging techniques play a crucial role in guiding surgical interventions, although optimal outcomes rely on precise image correlation. Collaboration with radiology teams in the operating room enhances real-time decision-making and on-site information availability. Throughout the follow-up phase, maintaining consistency in imaging techniques akin to those employed during diagnosis is prudent for accurate monitoring of treatment efficacy and disease progression.
