Community Opioid Use Recovery: Considering the Roles of Community Collaboration and Stigma

In this chapter, the authors provide an overview of the opioid crisis facing communities and how community collaboration and communication can be used to achieve states of recovery on the communal level. In the beginning of the chapter, the authors provide the reader with a brief explanation of the social, political, and economic environments that contribute to the increase in opioid addiction and overdose. From there, the authors then provide the reader with an overview of the type of resources that may be needed to achieve a state of recovery. In the final sections of the chapter, the authors provide readers with an overview of stigma, the model of stigma communication, and how narratives can serve as useful tools to combat existing stigmas.
