Development of Asymmetric Cold Rolling Technology of Low Carbon Steel Grades in Order to Increase the Thickness of the Hot Rolled Strip

Currently, all technological changes taking place in the ferrous metallurgy are aimed primarily at reducing production costs and improving the quality characteristics of products. In view of this, in modern sheet-rolling production, the tendency to produce products from steels with a high range of operational and mechanical properties is rapidly developing, while reducing production costs. The Zhilyaev Laboratory of Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials has shown the possibility of significantly reducing the thickness of the hot rolled strip in the production of tapes from low-carbon steel grades. Experimental studies of the possibility of increasing the thickness of the hot-rolled strip for the manufacture of cold-rolled tape were carried out on the unique DUO 400 laboratory and industrial mill. The proposed technology for the production of cold-rolled tape will help to increase the productivity of broadband hot rolling and, accordingly, reduce production costs. Also, it was found that asymmetric rolling with a coefficient of mismatch of the speeds of the working rolls equal to 5, other things being equal, led to a simultaneous increase in compression and a decrease in force in one pass compared with symmetric rolling. At the same time a gradient recrystallized microstructure is observed in both the longitudinal and cross-section of the strip.
