To the Question of Manufacturing Wire for Cold Bulk Metal Forming: A Review

The article discusses the peculiarities of the main stages of manufacturing material for the cold bulk forming process to ensure the production of high-quality products. The basic processes determining the production of workpieces are described. The parameters of the wire production process for cold bulk forming are specified. The main stages are examined, including the metallurgical component, input control, heat treatment, as well as the preparation of the surface of the raw metal. The most important factors of each stage of manufacturing are presented. Possible options for using various equipment that ultimately allows obtaining high-quality products are indicated. The main defects that may occur at various stages of wire production are outlined. Additionally, possible measures to eliminate the discussed defects are presented. Activities for input control of the obtained products have been considered with the aim of identifying hidden defects in the used coils. The main parameters of the equipment necessary for obtaining high-quality final products have been identified, starting from the continuous casting of billets to the shot-blasting machines for processing the finished coils. An important aspect is the stage of chemical treatment and preparation of wire coils. Specific measures are presented that allow achieving the required quality of wire coils.
