Cryogenic Hardening to Improve the Efficiency of the Honing Process When Machining Parts Made from Low-Carbon Steel

摘要

The Mechanical engineering is the largest and most important industry. Like any other industry, mechanical engineering has its own challenges. The main task in modern mechanical engineering is to improve the quality of products. One of the main aspects of quality improvement is the control and inspection of all stages of production. It is important to provide a quality control system that will cover all stages - from the purchase of raw materials and components to the final assembly of the finished product. The introduction of new technologies and modern equipment also plays an important role in improving the quality of products. Automation and robotization processes can significantly improve assembly accuracy and the quality of the final product. Low-carbon steels are increasingly used in various industries. High mechanical resistance to low temperatures allows the use of products made from these steels in the north of Russia. High anti-corrosion resistance determines their use in the chemical industry. The final stage of processing of many parts made of such steels is honing. However, honing “soft” stainless steel 12Х18Н10Т and frost-resistant steel 09Г2С gives poor surface quality: sagging forms along the processing mark and scuffs appear. This paper discusses the use of a new progressive honing method with preliminary cryogenic processing.
