Procedure to Determine Installation Places for 3-Axis Accelerometers and Optimal Excitation Points of Vehicle Body

The paper presents a procedure to determine the installation places for 3-axis accelerometers, optimal body excitation points and optimal installation points for motor vehicle body suspension mounts. Within the procedure being developed, theoretical calculations of analytical modal analysis are given, a finite element model of the SUV body-in-white and a Nastran input file are developed, and modal analysis is performed. Places for installation of 3-axis accelerometers, optimal excitation points and places for installation of body suspension mounts for carrying out experimental modal analysis of the vehicle body-in-white are also defined. Furthermore, calculation studies of transfer functions from the optimal body excitation point to the 3-axis accelerometer location points were carried out taking into account the packaging.
