Engineering Method of Supports Selection for Multi-span Beam Structures at Free Vibration

The value of the first eigenfrequency of vibration and the first critical load for beam structures are important parameters that largely determine their behavior at forced vibrations and buckling. Existing engineering methods of calculation of free vibration and buckling are usually limited only by check calculations of individual beams with simplified support conditions without taking into account the influence of axial forces and temperature. This paper proposes a calculation method that uses known solutions of the theory of vibration and stability in the form of analytical dependencies and values of support coefficients at a given stiffness of supports. The method makes it possible to perform check and design calculations without the use of computers, to make a reasonable selection of the supports for a multi-span beam structures, based on the specified values of the first eigenfrequency, critical force or temperature with sufficient accuracy for engineering calculations.
