Innovative Technologies for Postharvest Management of Pests and Diseases of Fruits and Vegetables

Postharvest losses are the major issues for growers after crop harvesting, especially in horticultural crop production. Several causes behind this include physiological change, physical damage, chemical injury, and pathological decay (Mitra, 2021). Fruits and vegetables lose their nutritional innards because of postharvest infections. Consequently, essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber necessary for human growth were lost (Tripathi et al., 2013). The amount and quality of the fruit should be considered when evaluating postharvest disease because these diseases make the produce unsellable and lower the product’s value. Fungus and bacteria are often blamed for postharvest illnesses in fruits and vegetables. Postharvest diseases are those that appear on different sections of plants that have been harvested, such as seeds, fruits, and flowers. Fresh produce can become infected before or after harvest by diseases caused by fungi and bacteria that can penetrate the unbroken skin of the crop.
