Role of Milk Stains in Criminal Investigation
摘要
Human milk forensic examination is a specialized area of study that serves a range of purposes, including identifying the mother of a child, investigating child abuse cases, and aiding in other criminal investigations. In cases involving child neglect, abandonment, or custody disputes, one highly accurate method to determine the identity of the mother is through DNA analysis of human milk. When certain substances, like drugs or toxins, are found in human milk, it can provide clues pointing towards child abuse or neglect, requiring attention. To give an example, illicit drugs in breast milk is a clear sign that the mother is consuming drugs, thus putting the infant at risk of being exposed to harmful substances. Under certain circumstances, the application of human milk can serve as a method to establish a correlation between a suspect and a crime scene. To provide an example, when a baby is found abandoned, one method for identifying the mother, who might be a suspect, is by examining the human milk obtained from the baby’s clothing.
