摘要

A diverticulum is a sacculation of mucosa and submucosa through the muscularis layer of the colonic wall, where the taeniae and mesentery are absent. The occlusion of the neck of the diverticulum may lead to inflammation, mucosal erosions, and microperforation. Although the inflamed diverticula are most commonly seen in the sigmoid and descending colon, less commonly they may be present in the transverse or ascending colon.
